Online Dental Education Library

Our team of dental specialists and staff strive to improve the overall health of our patients by focusing on preventing, diagnosing and treating conditions associated with your teeth and gums. Please use our dental library to learn more about dental problems and treatments available. If you have questions or need to schedule an appointment, contact us.

Oral Hygiene/Health 2020 emphasis is on keeping our mouths more basic (higher ph), good salivary flow and encouraging a shift in oral flora (bacteria) to the "good guys" (non disease causing bacteria). At your next telephone follow-up appointment, Dr. Chin will review your oral home care program. Updated suggestions may include regular use of remineralization pastes; diet- arginine rich foods (see videos below), xylitol (amount and timing important), basic chews; tooth varnishes, non alcohol mouthrinses, mouth sprays, mouth gels. Healthy mouths help us have healthy bodies!

Emphasis on oral health and relationship to whole body health is a of primary importance to Dr. Chin and team and include a lifestlye and habits as below:

  • EXCELLENT oral health
  • REGULAR oral home care program
  • BALANCED diet
  • REGULAR SLEEPing habits (at least 7-9 hours nightly), have routine, put technology 'to bed", have dinner as early as able.
  • STRESS MANAGEMENT - breathing, meditation
  • ENJOY life with loved ones- keep connected, savour meals together.
  • FOREVER STUDENT- learn something new everyday!
  • Regular EXERCISE
  • SPIRITUAL WELL BEING- gratitude journal, prayer.

Some dental procedures, such as tooth extractions and oral surgery, may call for our office to prescribe medications before or after a procedure. These medications are used to prevent or fight an infection, or to relieve any post-operative discomfort and pain.

For these reasons, it is extremely important that you share your entire medical history - including any medications you are currently taking - with our office. Some medications used in dentistry, and other medical practices, could interact with those medications in a detrimental way.  In addition, if you have any allergic reactions to certain medications, it is important for our office to know beforehand.

Finally, if you are prescribed any medication by our office, follow the dosage instructions very carefully, and if instructed, finish your entire prescription even if you are no longer feeling pain.
